Flames Take
3rd Place In
USFA World Series - Elimination Round
Game #6 The North Florida Thunder came back from a one-run deficit and dealt the Flames a heart-breaking World Series-ending loss by a 6-1 score. The Flames scored in the first as Scoop Foulke singled and then Jennifer Yancey knocked her in with an RBI single. Unfortunately that would be the only run that would show on the board for the Flames in the game. Allie Davis had a single in the 2nd inning. A glimmer of hope came in the fourth inning. With the Flames mounting a one out rally on hits by Yancey and Erin Meyers, a diving catch by the Players centerfielder who then doubled up a Flames runner put an end to the uprising. Scoop Foulke pitched
four-plus innings and was relieved by Erin Meyers in the 4th. USFA World Series - Elimination Round
Game #5 A last inning rally proved "too little, too late" as the Flames dropped their first elimination game in World Series Gold Bracket play. The Flames got buzz-sawed by the Florida Players in the first when starter Megan Light got lit up for five runs on six hits. The never-say-die Flames rallied in the top of the 2nd to tie things up with hits from Erin Meyers, Erika Hoffner , Jennifer Yancey, Princess Krebs and Lizzie Roberts (double). Before the inning was over the Players made a pitching change and went to their diminutive 2nd baseman in relief who miffed the Flames with a combination of slow, slower and slowest pitches. The Flames defense came
unglued in the bottom of the 3rd when they committed 4 errors which led to
three unearned Players runs. The Flames mounted a last inning
rally when Light got a look at four 45 mph fastballs and then promptly
spanked a 3-1 rocket to Dothan, Alabama for a two run homer but that was
where the heroics ended. Hoffner added a 3rd inning single
also.
USFA World Series - Elimination Round
Game #4 One might suspect that if you perused a dictionary in the home of John and Jan Meyers that the word "PRESSURE" may be conspicuously missing. It is absolutely evident that their daughter, and star Flames pitcher Erin, can't spell it, pronounce it and never feels it!! After staking her Flames teammates to a 3-1 lead through 4 innings, Meyers was relieved by Megan Light who caught the Thunder in "wakeup mode". The revitalized Thunder greeted Light with two hits and a walk to load the bases with no outs...re-enter "Erin the Entertainer". With a giggle and a grin, Meyers pulled her pony tail tight, strapped her face mask on and proceeded to whiff three straight Thunder players to end the major uprising and then shut them down again in the 6th to get the win...AND the save!! Erin finished with 11 strikeouts, one hit and no walks. The Flames once again
struck early. Before the Thunder could yawn twice the Flames were up
3-0 after one inning. With Princess Krebs aboard via a walk,
Megan Light hit a moon shot to deep center that glanced off the Thunder
centerfielders glove and over the fence. Good money says that's a
2-RBI dinger...not a 4-base error!! Ali Johnson and Erika Hoffner
(RBI) had singles in the first also. Helping also with the offensive
cause were Jennifer Yancey, Lara Gartner, Meyers and Lizzie Roberts who
all had singles.
USFA World Series - Elimination Round
Game #3 With Princess Krebs continuing her assault on opposing pitching with a leadoff single, the Flames got it going early with a 3-run 1st inning which was highlighted by a huge two out 2-RBI single by Erin Meyers. The Flames added another run in the sixth when Megan Angstadt, as part of her 2-hit day, came up big with a RBI single to right center. Megan Light and Scoop Foulke each grabbed a one-base hit also. Flames pitching continues
to be dominant. Starter Erin Meyers (3 innings/1 hit/4 K's/0
runs) and Scoop Foulke (3 innings/1 hit/1 run) provided the mastery.
Using five Gold miscues to their advantage, the North Fulton Flames stayed unbeaten in elimination rounds. Sandwiching a Jennifer Yancey single around three Gold errors the Flames scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and went on to a 4-2 victory. The Flames threatened in the 2nd when Chelsea Godwin sent a towering double to deep center with no outs but she was left stranded at 3rd along with another Flames amigo at 2nd. Megan Light, Allie Davis and Brittany Van Frayen each had singles to round out the hitting. The Flames utilized a
triumvirate of pitching to stymie the Gold. With an
uncharacteristic " lax of leather" defensive showing by the lady
Flames (four errors), time and time again they were bailed out
by pitchers Megan Light (2 2/3 inning), Scoop Foulke(1 inning) and then by
Erin Meyers who came in to record the final out.
USFA World Series -
Elimination Round Game #1 Erin Meyers and her Crush pitching counterpart dueled back and forth the first 3 innings with each allowing no hits. Meyers helped her own cause in the 3rd with triple down the left field line and then scored on a single by Princess Krebs. The Crush threatened to tie things up in the 5th. With one out and a runner on third, the Crush hit a one hopper to Flames 3rd baseman Chelsea Godwin who threw a dart to catcher Allie Davis who tagged the the runner out to nip the rally. Meyers was un-hittable
through her 4 innings of work. She K'd eight and a 4th inning walk
was her only blemish. Scoop Foulke pitched the 5th and 6th and
struck out and gave up one hit
USFA World Series - Pool
Game #3 Torrential Florida afternoon rainstorms shortened the Flames last pool game to a 3 inning affair with the Flames on top 1-0. With hits still at a premium, the Flames made the most of their two for the game. Princess Krebs returned to the lineup and and smashed a 1st inning single and then later scored on a Megan light double. Light also pitched and held the Texas team scoreless.
USFA World Series - Pool
Game #2 With
the Flames bats still slumbering, the Jacksonville Players put one run on
the board and it held up to hand the Georgia USFA State Champs their 2nd
pool game loss by a 1-0 score. Olivia Doud had the Flames lone hit
with a two-base blast down the leftfield line.
Settling into what is the usual Flames "modus operandi", the Flames dropped their first pool game . The game was called after the 75 minute time limit. A couple of singles off the bats of Megan Light and Erika Hoffner were all the NFF girls could muster in their USFA World Series opener. A big six-run first propelled the Texas Elite to a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Scoop Foulke pitched the
1st and Erin Meyers hurled the 2nd.
