Flames Capture Runner-Up Honors In Austell
Austell
GSA Tourney - Championship
Game The Flames broke a cardinal rule in softball and paid for it! Clinging to a 1-0 lead going into the last inning, the Flames allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base on an error and that allowed the Kelly Magic to tie the game 3 batters later. After a couple more errors the Flames found themselves down 3-1 and that's where the game ended. The Flames lone run came in the 3rd when Allie Davis singled and eventually came home courtesy of a Maddie Higginbotham sacrifice fly. Andrea Cole did her best to keep the Flames in the game as she had a double to deep right center in the 3rd and also provided a Andruw Jones-esque diving catch in left field to save 2 runs. Once again the
Flames pitching staff deserved better. Allowing no earned runs,
Megan Light and Meghan Whipple only game up two hits. Austell GSA Tourney -
4th Elim Game Coupled with continued strong pitching and stellar defense, the Flames made a 1st inning run stand up and beat the Ringold Elite by a 1-0 score. With monster defensive efforts from Jennifer Yancey and Erik Hoffner the Flames moved on to the finals. Yancey fielded her 2nd-base position like a pro as she made play after play and Hoffner threw TWO runners out at 1st base from RIGHT FIELD to give the Flames pitchers all the support they would need. The Elite's only scoring effort was thwarted on a throw from centerfielder Mary Q to catcher Allie Davis back to 3rd baseman Scoop Foulke who caught an unsuspecting runner diving back into 3rd. Meghan Whipple (3 innings) and Megan Light (2 inning) were "lights out" as they each only surrendered a hit apiece. The Flames
scored in the first on an RBI single by Brittany Van Frayen knocking in
Yancey who had singled earlier. Allie Davis and Hoffner also
singled.

3rd Elim Game One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch but one bad inning can spoil a softball game! The Flames had that one bad inning in their winners bracket final in a re-match with the Kelly Magic. Mental and fielding miscues proved to be lethal as the the North Fulton gang gave up five 2nd inning runs and couldn't mentally get back on track on their way to a 6-1 loss. The Flames outhit the Magic 5-4 but committed a disappointing 5 errors. Maddie Higginbotham had a double and Andrea Cole (RBI), Scoop Foulke, Jennifer Yancey and Mary Quattrocchi had singles. Cole and Meghan
Whipple (each two innings) pitched for the Flames and deserved a better
fate.
Austell GSA Tourney -
