Flames Beat Nightmare for Championship

Calhoun, GA. -- March 22, 2008

After knotting things in the bottom of the 1st at 2-2, the Nightmare gang ran out of steam and could manage one hit off Scoop Foulke over the last 4 innings as the Flames notched their 1st CHAMPIONSHIP of 2008.

Erika Hoffner got the Flames started in the 1st with a leadoff bunt single and, after a Nightmare error put Brittany Van Frayen aboard, scored on a fielders choice.   Scoop Foulke then singled plating the 2nd run.  Allie Davis singled in the 3rd and Hoffner added another single in the 5th to complete the Flames hit tally and secure the Flames victory by a 4-2 margin.

4-Run 2nd Inning Propels Flames to 7-2 Win

Calhoun, GA. -- March 22, 2008

The Georgia Elite sent a 1st inning wake-up call to the Flames as they banged around the Flames pitching and came away with 2 runs on an inside the park HR to hand the Atlanta gals their first deficit of the day.   Sam Metzler would have nothing of that as she countered with her own homer with one aboard to tie things up.  The Flames then put 4 more runs up in the 2nd inning on singles by Liz Schneider, Megan Light and Laura Purvis (RBI) to put the game out of reach on the way to a Flames 7-2 win.  Light added a triple in the 4th to close out the offense.

After the 1st inning, the Flame pitching duo of Light and Andrea Cole shut down the Elite on just one hit over the next 3 innings.

Flames Too Much for Georgia Nightmare

Calhoun, GA. -- March 22, 2008

Four hits that never left the infield set the stage for a 2RBI double by Liz Schneider as the Flames scored all four of their runs in the 4th inning.  Andrea Cole, once again wielding her bat like a Harry Potter sorcerer, launched a 46' single OVER the pitchers head that dropped in the infield like blob of  jello on a kitchen floor.  Lara Gartner then laid down a perfect bunt as did Charlotte Sternon which scored Cole.  Scoop Foulke then grounded to shortstop who couldn't make a play and all Flames were safe and another run in. "Liz the Launcher" then promptly spanked a 3-1 fastball into the right center gap to score the final two Flame runs.   Cole was the pitcher of record as she shutout, with help from reliever Megan Light, the Georgia Nightmare as the Flames took a 4-0 win.

Flames Open With Pitchers Duel Win Over Riptides

Calhoun, GA. -- March 22, 2008

Megan Light (0 runs and 3 hits) and ex-Flame Lindsey Anderson settled into on old-fashioned pitcher's duel as the Flames and Riptides hooked up in their 3rd face-off in 6 days.  The Flames had drawn first blood in the top of the 5th when Scoop Foulke sent a right center line drive all the way to the fence and pranced all the way around the bases with the first run.  The Riptides answered right back with a run to tie things up going into the 6th.   In the top of the 6th the Flames loaded the bases with no outs on two walks and a Jennifer Yancey single.  Coach Mike Yancey, after seeing a dozen Flames fan in the previous five innings, dug deep into his ex-Georgia Tech baseball playbook and called for a suicide squeeze.  Brittany Van Frayen laid the bunt down and the surprised Riptides couldn't get Charlotte Sternon out as she slide home with the eventual winning run.    Foulke, who came on in relief of Light in the 5th, shut down the opponents in the 6th to preserve the 3-1 victory.
