Flames Crowned
USFA State Tournament Champions!!

Tournament Photos

Photo Compliments of John Meyers

When it was all said and done, ONLY mother nature could put a halt to the Flames winning ways.  Turning in an impressive performance of timely hitting, good defense and great pitching, the Flames stood as the only unbeaten 14U team in the Georgia State USFA tournament to take the title.  After the Flames beat the Cherokee Pride in the winners bracket final, 50-mph wind, tornado sirens and buckets of sideways rain curtailed any possibility of the tournament continuing.

USFA Georgia State Championship - Championship Game
Flames Stake Claim To State Title -  Beat Cherokee Pride 9-4

South Commons Olympic Complex - Columbus, GA - June 25, 2006

The North Fulton Flames seem to have the Cherokee Pride's "number".  Sunday in Columbus, GA was no different!  Amidst rumors
that impending storms may cut the tournament short and make this the championship game, the NFF gals scored in every inning
and beat the Woodstock team by a 9-4 score.  After a Megan Light single in the first, Lindsey Anderson doubled her home to give
the Flames an early lead.  The Flames added 4 more in the 2nd when they combined hits by Erika Hoffner, Lara Gartner (Double 2RBI),
Lizzie Roberts (Double) and Princess Krebs (single w/RBI).  Rounding out the hitting was Megan Whipple with a RBI single and
Erin Meyers and Brittany Van Frayen with singles.

Light started and went the first three and Meyers came in to turn out the lights and tuck the Pride into bed.

It's On To The Finals As Flames Whitewash Georgia Fire

South Commons Olympic Complex - Columbus, GA - June 25, 2006

It took  Princess Krebs exactly two pitches into the game to put a dousing on the Georgia Fire.  Leading off in the top of the first, Krebs
sent a 1-0 fastball over the right center field fence to give the Flames all the runs they would need.   Just to make sure there no warm
embers left, Chelsea Godwin cleared the bases in the 2nd inning with a bases loaded double to deep left.   Other hitters for the Flames
were Alli Johnson (2 singles) and Megan Light, Jennifer Yancey, Lara Gartner (RBI), Erika Hoffner and Meghan Whipple with singles.

Scoop Foulke (3 innings) and Cool Whip combined for the shutout.

USFA Georgia State Championship - Game 3
Flames Roar Back After Night Long Weather Delay To Best Georgia Heat

South Commons Olympic Complex - Columbus, GA - June 24 & 25, 2006

Lightning struck twice in Columbus, Ga over the weekend. Once on Saturday night, compliments of Mother Nature, and then
again early Sunday morning from the the Flames bats.   With only thirteen minutes left in the game and the Flames trailing 2-1,
tournament officials halted all of the Saturday games at 7:00 pm due to severe lightning.   The teams were beckoned back for a
7:30am Sunday start and the Flames wasted no time in disposing of a good Heat team.   Scoop Foulke got things started when
she blasted a 1-0 pitch for a double to deep left.  Megan Light limbered up her stroke with two prodigious foul balls that found
their way to a different zip code and then promptly spanked her 2nd RBI double of the day to the gap in right to knot the game
at two.    Lindsey Anderson walked and then Alli Johnson sent a wicked one hopper  that glanced off the Heat 2nd baseman
that scored two more runs.   Jennifer Yancey ended the "thirteen minute run of fun" with a single as time expired with the
Flames winning 4-2.

USFA Georgia State Championship - Game 2
Flames Rise Up to the Ga. Challengers - Win 7-1 in First Round

South Commons Olympic Complex - Columbus, GA - June 24, 2006

The Flames showcased all of their team strengths in this Saturday morning contest.  Erin Meyers pitched 4 solid innings
highlighted by 7 strikeouts.  The Flames defense flashed it's 'love of the glove' by turning two double plays.  An offensive
barrage of 11 hits contributed to the Flames erupting for 6 runs in the 5th inning.  The hit parade was led by Scoop with 3,
and Megbug & Alli J. each with 2 hits.

USFA Georgia State Championship - Pool Game
Flames Whip Crazy Peaches 6-1 In USFA State Debut Pool Opener

South Commons Olympic Complex - Columbus, GA - June 23, 2006

Megan Light started the game strong with two innings of shut out pitching.  The Flames bats came alive behind 2 hits
by Princess, hits by all three of the 'L gang'; Lizzie, Lindsey & Lara, and additional pokes by Jennifer, Megbug, and Alli J.

Towards the end of the game, spectators witnessed the creation of a new game called 'BUS-N-SCOOP'.

Concept: Relief pitcher Lindsey (the Bus) throws a ball to the other team's batter causing a ricochet towards second
base where Scoop catches it.  Application:  In the 4th inning, Lindsey threw a practice pitch, then on three consecutive
pitches to three different batters, the ball found it's way into Scoop's glove for all three outs.  The Crazy Peaches
decided they did not like this new game, and went home, while the Flames went on to victory.
