Winter Is Coming Tourney - Elimination Game 2
Stray Cats Send Flames Packing

Central Park, Cumming GA -- November 4, 2006

Venturing into the 16-U ranks proved to be a bigger challenge than the Flames were able to stand up to as they dropped their 3rd consecutive game in as many tries and disappointedly headed back down GA 400 late Saturday afternoon without a victory for the day.    Playing a solid Stray Cat team that made plays when they needed and collected hits in bunches the Flames fell 5-1.   With a slim 2-1 margin in the 3rd, the Cats took advantage of a ball lost in the sun and two laser-beam grounders to the infielders that resulted in zero outs and then the Cumming girls banged out 3 hits and 3 runs for the inning to sink the Flames.

The Flames offense couldn't deliver much against their opponents pitiching and were held to 5 hits.  Megan Light had a 4th inning double and Brittany Van Frayen, Lindsey Anderson, Jennifer Yancey and Mary Q added singles.

Scoop Foulke pitched 3 innings and Megan Light finished the last 2.

Missed Opportunities Plague Flames in 5-1 Loss

Central Park, Cumming GA -- November 4, 2006

Playing a "woulda, coulda, shoulda" game the Flames doomed themselves with early scoring opportunities and came up blank  in the 1st and 2nd innings.  In the opening frame the Flames loaded the bases  with no outs on a walk to Erika Hoffner and singles by Allie Davis and Mary Quattrocchi but a fly out and two strikeouts ended the inning.   In the 2nd they were at it again with runners on 2nd and 3rd and couldn't get the timely hit.  The Habersham Raid team erupted for 5 runs on 3 extra base hits, a walk and a single.  Laura Gartner had the lone Flames RBI with her 2nd single of the game in the 5th.

Lindsey Anderson started and looked sharp through 3 2/3 but ran into a buzz saw in the 4th.  Megan Light came on in relief.

Flames Can't Overcome Miscues - Nipped In Opener 4-3

Central Park, Cumming GA -- November 4, 2006

In a game they should have won, the Flames gave up 3 unearned runs and committed 5 errors to hand the Lady Nuggets a win in a frigid 9:30am pool game.   The Flames collected 9 hits but couldn't deliver the KO punch in the 4th when they had the bases loaded with one out and only walked away with one run.  Brittany Van Frayen  and Allie Davis led the way with two hits, Megan Light had a double and RBI and  Lindsey Anderson (RBI) Erika Hoffner, Jennifer Yancey and Mary Q had singles.

Meghan Whipple pitched through the 2nd and gave up only one earned run.  Scoop Foulke pitched the 3rd, 4th and 5th.
