Dacula Nips Flames Again - Take
Championship
Central Park, Cumming GA --
March 10,2007
An erratic
defense spelled doom for the Flames as they committed seven miscues and
dropped a close decision to the Dacula Falcons 4-3. It was the 2nd
time on the day that the Falcons had toppled the Flames by a single
run.
Surviving a
three-error 1st inning, the Flames got out of it with relatively little
damage and down only one run. The Flames bounced right back in the
bottom of the 1st to tie things up. Jennifer Yancey took a triple
down the right field line, stopped long enough on 3rd base to jettison
some rocket fuel and then was knocked in on a sacrifice.
After Dacula
scored again in the top of the 2nd, the Flames came right back again
scoring two of their own on singles by Brittany Van Frayen, Lara Gartner
and Yancey to take a 3-2 lead. The dreaded "E" word came
up again in the top of the 3rd as the Lady Falcons scored two more.
Megan Light made a nice diving stop at 2nd base to thwart any further
damage but Dacula had a lead that they would not relinquish.
Allie Davis had the only other hit for the Flames with a 2-out single in
the 4th
The Flames
pitching was certainly good enough to win. Andrea Cole (3 hits),
Meghan Whipple (1 hite) and Megan Ligth (no hits) shared time on the
mound.

Flames Move To Championship Game
With 4-1 Victory
Central Park, Cumming GA --
March 11,2007
In a game highlighted
by a spectacular "ESPY CANDIDATE" style outfield catch by Mary
Quatrocchi, the NF Flames shut down the Home America team and advanced to
the Headbusters championship game. With one out in the 5th
inning and the Flames holding a 3 run lead, a Home America batter launched
a rocket shot to deep center. The fleet footed Mary Q. turned her
back to the plate and scud-missiled her way to where she thought the ball
would land. With a full, stretch-out backwards dive, the
"Q" stuck up her glove, rolled on her belly and came up with
with a yellow ball, a grin and a mouthful of bermuda grass soufflé!!
"I've been umpiring 15 years and that's the best catch I've seen in
girls softball", said Terry Wilson who was doing the bases for the
game.
Mary Q. was also
the offensive star for the game with a 2-RBI inside-the-park homer in the
1st and had an RBI double in the 3rd. Meghan Whipple had a
2RBI double and Jennifer Yancey, who also had a great diving catch at her
2nd base position that she turned into a DP, had a double.
Starter Whipple
(one hit over 3 innings) and Megan Light (1 hit in 2 innings) stymied the
Home America team all afternoon.

Double-oh...anyway you look at
it!!

Frayen with triple and a double and an RBI. Megan Light had a triple

Flames Pop North Hall County 6-2
Central Park, Cumming GA --
March 11,2007

The Flames
scored early and often and beat Hall County 6-2. The top of
the 1st started a little bit shaky with a single and an error by the
Flames to put 2 Hall runners on with only one out but Erika Hoffner made a
diving grab of a sinking blooper at shortstop to short circuit the Hall
County insurgence.
Mary Q. got
things started in the 1st with a single and Meghan Whipple, Hoffner and
Brittany Van Frayen all added RBI singles to plate 3 runs in the 1st
inning. Jennifer Yancey tripled to score one in the 2nd and in the
3rd inning the Flames added 2 more runs on doubles by Hoffner and
Megan Light. Yancey and Mary Q. added singles in the 5th to
close things out.
Whipple started
and had 4 strikeouts and gave up 2 hits and 2 walks. Andrea Cole
pitched the last two, gave up two hits, two walks and had two strikeouts.

Dacula Scores in Bottom of 6th to
Beat Flames 1-0
Central Park, Cumming GA --
March 11,2007
At the end of
the game the Dacula Falcons had ZERO...as in errors and that proved to be
the difference in a well played, close game. The Flames went into
the bottom of the 6th deadlocked in a 0-0 tie but a 2-base error proved to
be their demise as the Falcons scored two batters later to end the game at
1-0. The Flames had 6 hits, 2 singles by Megbug Light, a
double by Allie Davis, and singles by Meghan Whipple, Erika Hoffner and
Brittany Van Frayen.
Getting
about as much support as an ex-wife of an Alabama dump truck driver, the Flames
pitching staff of Andrea Cole, Light and Whipple did all they could to
keep the Flames in the game.

One too many!!
