Flames Take Mothers Day Fun Championship

Mothers Day Fun Tourney - Elim Game #2
Late Inning Heroics Brings Championship Home For Flames

Central Park, Cumming GA -- March 12,2007

According to eye-witness reports,  it was the "beep, beep, beep" on the  umpires timer signaling time had expired that set the stage for a nail-biting walk-off victory for the North Fulton Flames late Saturday night.   The Flames, after putting themselves in a 4-run hole in the 1st had battled back to make it 4-3 going into the last inning.   Leading off the 5th with a walk, Lara Gartner (running for Meghan Whipple) eventually came around to tie things up.   Now, with the score knotted  and faced with " a run wins it ...or ITB", the Flames loaded the bases and sent Erik Hoffner to the plate.  As often is the case, the diminutive fleet-footed right fielder worked the count until she got "her" pitch which she promptly slammed a liner down the left-field line..."FLAMES WIN, FLAMES WIN, FLAMES WIN"!!  Cheers could be heard all the way to London as the Flames celebrated the championship with a victory over the Terrell Mill Titans!!

Tune-up Win for Flames - Belt Home America 9-4

Central Park, Cumming GA -- March 12,2007

The Flames knocked out 10 hits, used their entire stable of  FIVE pitchers for an inning each, scored 5 runs in the first and waltzed into the 2nd seed spot for the evening elimination games with a 9-4 win over the Home America gals.  The 1st inning was highlighted by a Scoop Foulke inside-the-park homer that plated two, a Megan Light double and  a Mary Quattrocchi triple later in the inning that also scored two.  The Flames weren't done there with the extra base hits as Lara Gartner and Kellie Wooden each clobbered 4th inning RBI triples.  Allie Davis had two singles (RBI), and Light (RBI), Jennifer Yancey (RBI) and Liz Schneider all added singles.

Foulke, Light, Wooden, Andrea Cole and Meghan Whipple each pitched an inning in successive order for the Flames.

Flames Spank Cherokee Pride 6-0 In Pool Play

Central Park, Cumming GA -- March 11,2007

In a game that saw Flames rocket shots finding their way into Cherokee leather and soft loopers finding their way to Bermuda grass, the Flames made the most out of their 4 hits and whitewashed an overmatched Pride team by a 6-0 score.  Erika Hoffner, Scoop Foulke, Meghan Whipple (2RBI) and Jennifer Yancey (RBI) each had singles.

Andrea Cole dominated in her 3 innings and gave way to the return appearance of Foulke who had been on the 45-day IR pitching list.  Foulke took all of one pitch to get back in the groove as she threw one ball and then 5 straight strikes.  Each pitcher recorded  3 strikeouts.
