Chickamauga Cyclones Get SCOOPED - Flames Win Championship 5-1

Heritage Point Complex, Dalton, GA - March 18, 2006

Scoop Foulke Strikes Out Nine  -   Allows One Hit

With a resounding SMACK as a 1st-inning, 1st pitch Scoop Foulke fastball met an Alli Johnson catchers-mitt, it was evident she was in the "zone".   Using some extreme heat throughout, mixed with a crafty change-up, Scoop allowed only one hit and no earned runs for this nightcap championship.   Scoop had nine strikeouts and only had one bump in the road.  With a minor uprising brewing in the 5th after a few Flames defensive "burps", Foulke said "no more of this" and struck out two Cyclones and then combined with battery-mate Alli J.  to nail a runner at the plate  trying to sneak home on a passed ball.   Grunting her way to a quick 3 up/3 down 6th was Megan Light who was equally impressive in her one-inning fireman role.

A talented (and sizable) Cyclones team was undone by two costly errors in the 3rd.  Jenna led off with a single and then Brittany and Lara Gartner reached on errors to load the bases.  An RBI Princess bloop single was followed by a Scoop deep double to left to plate 2 more Flames.  Megan Light finished the debauchery with an RBI single.   Alli Johnson had a double in the 6th.

Dalton Tournament - Game 4
Flames Advance To Finals With 7-1 Victory

Heritage Point Complex, Dalton, GA - March 18, 2006

In a game that super-fan Ed Roberts astutely pointed out was a "softball oddity", the Flames won 7-1.   In a rare occurrence, Meghan Whipple got both the win AND a save!  Starting the game and pitching superbly, "Cool-Whip" was relieved in the 4th only to be summoned back in the 5th to finish off the Intimidators.  Whipple faced a minimum 9 batters in the first 3 innings and gave up no hits throughout.

Princess Krebs (eye-popper stab at short), Megan Light (deep in hole at 2nd)  and Olivia Doud (nice running catch in right) anchored the defense while Scoop Foulke and Jenna Blakeslee  led the "O" with two singles and an RBI and a double and single respectively.  Olivia, Whipple and Erika had singles also

Dalton Tournament - Game 3
Midway Stormed By Flames 12-0

Heritage Point Complex, Dalton, GA - March 18, 2006

Megan Light put a BIG  EXCLAMATION POINT on this game by delivering a grand-slam homer in the top of the 4th inning.  Light's blast propelled the Flames to 12-0 drubbing of the Midway Storm in a game that saw the Flames score in every inning .   The offense was often...and plentiful.  In addition to her homer, Megbug added a single, Scoop Foulke and Lindsey each had a double and single, Princess Krebs and Olivia Doud  had  two singles, and Erika, Lindsey, Brittany, Lara and Jenna had singles.

The Whipple to Anderson one-two pitching punch was once again invoked as the pair shutout the Storm.

Dalton Tournament - Game 2
Flames Thump Cartersville

Heritage Point Complex, Dalton, GA - March 18, 2006

Unfazed by a 1st-inning, 1st batter rocket off  of her thigh, Lindsey Anderson pitched the Flames to a 7-2 victory.   Megan Light led the offensive fireworks with a towering 2nd-inning HR blast that interrupted flight patterns at Chattanooga International Airport for several minutes.  A zero-error game, led by some nifty defensive work by Anderson, Erika Hoffner and Brittany Van Frayen, stifled the Intimidators all afternoon.

Sluggers for the Flames included Lindsey, Lara, Brittany, Jenna, Meghan and Lizzie, who all had singles.  Meghan Whipple sewed up the victory with a one inning relief effort.

Dalton Tournament - Game 1
South Gwinnett Falls Prey to Flames In Dalton Opener 7-3

Heritage Point Complex, Dalton, GA - March 18, 2006

Down 3-0 in the first inning, it looked as if the "ghost of tournament past" was once again visiting the Flames.  However, the Flames exorcised the pool play demon that had been lurking in previous weeks and notched a 7-3 opener win against the Comets.   Facing a nippy breeze blowing in from the North Georgia Mountains and also a 1-5 yr sentence for Agent Ruth Whipple in the "big-house" for a County Park Canine Infraction, the Flames struck for a 6-run 2nd inning to put things to bed early.

Lara Gartner led the offensive parade with a double and single with one RBI and Brittany Van Frayen had two singles and an RBI.  Adding hits were Jenna Blakeslee with a big 2RBI double, Scoop Foulke with a 2RBI single, Meghan Whipple (single/RBI) and Lizzie Roberts and Lindsey Anderson with singles.

Cool-Whip picked up the win (and also arranged for bail money for mother Ruth).   Lindsey Anderson finished up by blanking the Comets in her one-inning stint.
