Flames Thump Thunder 3-1 In Griffin Championship

Volunteer Park- Griffin, GA - November 5, 2005

A confident Flames contingent  made quick work of  a disheartened Thunder team in a 75 minute tourney championship game.   The Flames would get all the runs they needed from a dropped third strike and a subsequent throw into right field  that plated 2 runs by the Thunder catcher in the 2nd inning.

The Flames made the most out of their 3 hits (Megan Light/Double, Erika Hoffner/Single and Scoop Foulke/Single) as they pushed 2 runs across in the 2nd and one more in the 3rd.

Scoop Foulke didn't let a cool November night put any damper on her pitching as she whiffed 6 in her 3 innings of work.  Erin Meyers put the finishing touches on the championship win.

7th Inning Bombs By Anderson and Light Propel Flames Into Finals

Volunteer Park- Griffin, GA - November 5, 2005

The bulletproof Flames strapped on their Kevlar vests, took a couple of 7th inning shots in the chest and then threw a 3-bullet volley of their own to take a tie-breaker thriller from the Mid-Georgia Thunder.   In what is becoming a nerve-racking trend, the seemingly undaunted Flames are finding no deficit (large or late) too insurmountable.   Each team scored two runs in the first inning and then were stymied the rest of the way until the 7th inning heroics by Lindsey Anderson and Megan Light.  The Thunder had their hands in the cookie jar in 3 different innings when they loaded the bases but couldn't get nary a crumb.  That changed when they took a two run lead in the top of the7th with a 2-RBI triple to deep right and  the Flames once again found themselves staring at a scoreboard that had too many for "them" and not enough for "us".   With Princess Krebs perched at 2nd as a part of  the tie-breaker setup, Allie Johnson sent a high hopper under the 3rd baseman's glove to put the Flames within one.  Anderson then stepped to the plate and blasted a 1-1 pitch deep into right center for a triple that tied the game.   That set the stage as Megan Light launched a shot down the right field line that plated Anderson for the win.

Scoop Foulke started for the Flames and went 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 K's.  Light (2 hits/2 runs) pitched into the 7th and was relieved by Erin Meyers who finished up.

Other offense was provided by Light and Johnson (each had additional singles), and Erika Hoffner and Brittany Van Frayen with bunt singles.

Nightmare Last Inning Rally Falls Short - Flames Win Opener 7-3

Volunteer Park- Griffin, GA - November 5, 2005

The North Fulton Flames traveled to Griffin, GA on Saturday and found themselves a little north of Average and a "piece" south of Great in their opener with a pesky Georgia Nightmare club.   In quiet fashion the Flames built a 7 run leading going into the last inning but the Nightmare used 4 walks and a triple to plate 3 runs and give the Flames coaching staff some minor indigestion.  Providing a little of the Maalox was a great defensive outfield relay from right fielder  Erin Meyers to 2B Erika Hoffner to catcher Allie Davis to get a BIG OUT in the 5th. With a  normally steady Meghan Whipple not finding the strike zone during her stint in the 5th, Scoop Foulke was re-summoned and squelched the rally with a one pitch relief job.

Top hitters for the Flames were  Allie Johnson (single and triple), Scoop Foulke (2 singles), Erika Hoffner (2 singles), Allie Davis (double) and Princess Krebs and Brittany Van Frayen with singles.

Erin Meyers started and was perfect in her two innings recording 4 strikeouts.  Foulke came in for the 3rd and 4th and gave up one hit and had 3 strikeouts. Whipple pitched in the 5th.
