WIN CHAMPIONSHIP IN LAGRANGE LaGrange
Tournament - Championship Game After
a hard fought victory against the North Gwinnett Bulldogs in the
semifinals, the Georgia Fire was set face the Flames in a Championship
game that had the potential to be the inferno the team names implied.
The Fire jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and
appeared to be carrying the momentum of their semifinal win into the
championship game. However, in
the bottom of the first, Scoop Foulke circled the bases on a blast into
the right center gap that tied the game at 1.
In the second inning, the Flames once again demonstrated their big
inning potential by batting around and taking a commanding 8-1 lead.
Jennifer Yancey, Erin Meyers, Lindsay Anderson and Lizzie Roberts
all delivered hits in the rally. Lizzie
actually got two hits in the inning, continuing an impressive display of
hitting consistency and power. The
Flames closed the game with a pair of 2 run innings in the 3rd
and 4th, clinching the Georgia Borders Wars Championship with
an impressive 12-1 victory. As
they had done all day, the Flames used solid pitching and offensive
consistency to dominate their opponent.
In the Championship game, Princess Krebs, Scoop Foulke and Lara
Gartner each delivered 3 RBIs. After
a slow start in the pool games, the Flames used a true team effort to go
undefeated in the tournament games and claim the title.
An extremely well-coached team, they did the small things that are
sometimes overlooked in the course of a tournament.
People naturally focus on the big and spectacular but it is often
the ability to move a runner, the patience to take a walk or solid
defensive play that makes these victories possible.
This is a team that excels in all of those aspects.
Congratulations on a great win.

Tournament - Game 5 Game
5 presented another opportunity to reverse a setback suffered earlier in
the tournament when the Flames met the Georgia Fire.
The Fire had defeated the Flames 5-2 in the opening pool game the
day before. On this day, the
outcome would be different. The
Flames jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
on an RBI single by Lindsay Anderson.
It was a lead that the Fire would never be able to overcome due to
the solid pitching of Erin Meyers who limited them to 4 hits while
striking out 6. The Flames
remained in control of the game due to a diversified offensive barrage
that included multi-hit games by Princess Krebs, Scoop Foulke, Megan Light
and Lindsay Anderson. Anderson,
Jenna Blakeslee and Lizzie Roberts also contributed 2 RBIs each.
The victory put the Flames in the Championship game against the
winner of the Bulldogs / Fire semi-final matchup.

Tournament - Game 4 Having
righted their ship the night before against the Peachtree City Elite in
the opening tournament game, the Flames looked to avenge an 8-0 seed round
loss to the North Gwinnett Bulldogs in the second game of the tournament.
Early on it looked as if the Flames were destined to suffer a
similar fate as the Bulldogs jumped out to a daunting 5-1 lead through 3
innings. As they have done so
many times in the past though, the Flames demonstrated that they have no
quit in them. In the top of
the 4th inning, the bats of the Flames came alive to fuel an
impressive two out rally against the Bulldogs.
Led by the consistent power hitting of Lizzie Roberts, the Flames
reeled off 6 hits and scored 5 runs to give them a 6-5 lead that they
never relinquished. During the
rally, other clutch hits were delivered by Olivia Doud, Princess Krebs,
Scoop Foulke, Megan Light and Lindsay Anderson.
Scoop pitched a solid bottom half to close out the game and seal
the victory. LaGrange
