Smokey Mountain Sting Flames 6-1

The Smokey Mountain Sting stung the Flames with a 6-1 loss in the second pool game of the tournament early Saturday afternoon. The Flames only run came from back to back doubles by Scoop and Megan Light in the top of the 4th inning. Meghan Whipple again started on the mound and pitched 2 strong innings, Megan Light pitched the 3rd and Erin came in for the 4th and 5th innings.

Seeding for the elimination round was done by a blind draw, so losses in the pool games didn’t affect the Flames schedule for the rest of the weekend. “Now we’re warmed up and ready to go!” was the attitude of players and coaches alike.

Megan Light got the Flames off to a roaring start when she powered a fastball over the center field fence in the top of the first inning with Princess Krebs on base to give the Flames an early 2-0 lead over the Georgia Fire Black. The lead grew to 4-0 in the top of the 3rd on RBIs from Scoop and Megan but it didn’t hold up as the Fire came back to tie it up in the bottom of the inning. They added 3 more runs to their total, leaving the Flames on the short end of a 7-4 loss.

Jenna, Ericka, Allie J and Megan combined for 5 hits, while Meghan Whipple and Megan Light shared the pitching job, allowing only 1 earned run between them.
