Flames
Go Quietly In Carpet City Classic -
Game #3 You just got the feeling, as each scoreless inning progressed. that one run might be the difference as the Flames and the Storm fought to stay alive in a 9:00 AM Losers Bracket game. Starting Flames pitcher Megan Light and her Storm counterpart locked up in a game of "who'll blink first" and it ended up being the Flames as the Storm pushed across an unearned run in bottom of the 6th and it stood up for the victory. Light, and some stellar defensive work, kept the Flames in the game all morning as she whiffed 8 Storm batters while only giving 3 hits. LizSchneider, a moon
shot to deep right for a double, and Laura Purvis and Meghan Whipple with
singles accounted for the Flames meager offense. Carpet City Classic -
Game #2 The Georgia Extreme Purple pitcher retired 16 straight Flames and took a perfect game into the 6th before a one out double by Scoop Foulke stopped the offensive futility. The end result was a 4-0 thumping of the Flames and sent them to the Losers Bracket. Andrea Cole pitched well for the Flames but 4 consecutive singles in the 4th sent her to the showers. Foulke finished the 4th and Megan Whipple pitched in the 5th.
Carpet City Classic -
Game #1 The Flames made the most of just 4 hits as they plated four runs and toppled the Georgia Fire Black in the first game of a rain-shortened, rain delayed Carpet City Classic. With the scheduled first pool game to be played at 10:00AM, the Flames found themselves on the road in the wee AM hours only to find out that there were NO pool game and the opener was pushed back to 6:00PM due to dicey weather in Ringgold. Jennifer Yancey and Erika Hoffner had RBI singles and Charlotte Sternon and Scoop Foulke also singled. Foulke was lights out on
the hill for the Flames as she punished the Fire with her high heat all
night and only allowed one hit on the way to her complete-game shutout
performance.
